PLANS to build houses and redevelop a social club to save its long-term future have been knocked back.

Proposals sought to build semi-detached homes near Greenalls in Eccleston, with new access from Alder Hey Road.

Three planning applications were submitted which have been refused.

Plans included for eight semi-detached homes, with another application for the creation of six semi-detached homes.

Also an application for the demolition of Greenalls snooker and games room, lounge, bar area and toilets to be followed by the creation of a single-storey side and back extensions for replacement facilities and a 22-bay car parking area was rejected.

In the plans it is said it is "clear that the structure of the club and its internal decoration has dated considerably" and "the club have recognised that for the long term future of the club, as a member and community facility, it has to adapt".

Plans added: "some of the land that it has within its ownership must be considered as a redevelopment opportunity, so as to provide an income stream to protect to use of the club and added that "on current budgets, it is highly likely that the club and its facilities will have to close".

Proposals sparked numerous objections, particularly with regard to the loss of the bowling green.

Refusing plans, the planning officers cited no noise assessment had taken place and plans hadn't demonstrated sufficient off street parking.

In rejecting the houses, planning officers said this would result in the loss of a protected open space, the bowling green and car park.
