An 18-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident in Carlisle.

Emergency services were called to Aglionby Street this morning due to concerns for a man's welfare.

The air ambulance was called to the scene along with police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).

A spokeswoman for NWAS said the man sustained multiple injuries and his condition was "serious". He has been taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.

"The patient has been taken to hospital by road ambulance," she said. "It was a major trauma. It was a man in his late teens."

Police added that the man's injuries were not believed to be life threatening. It is not believed that anyone else was involved in the incident.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "We were mobile at 9.50am to reports of a person having fallen in central Carlisle.

"We flew from Langwathby to scene in 10 minutes and had a doctor and paramedic on board."

Aglionby Street was closed and police warned of congestion in the area.
