PLUMES of smoke could be seen across the River Mersey after a grass fire in Widnes.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were called at around 4.50pm yesterday (Thursday, May 16) following reports of a fire in the open on Lighthouse Road.
One fire engine attended and discovered a large amount of grass on fire.
Firefighters then used beaters and hand appliances to extinguish the flames.
