AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl who describes herself as ‘Wire’s biggest fan’ has received a phone call from Steve Price after asking for the team's kick off time to be changed.

Lucy Critchley, from Woolston, wrote a letter to Price ahead of the side’s Super League encounter against Huddersfield last month, which happened to clash with her birthday party.

And head coach Price was only too happy to return her call and wish her a happy birthday.

In the letter, Lucy wrote: “Dear Mr Steve Price, I am writing to ask you if you could change the match time because I have my eighth birthday party on that day and I really want to come to the match."

She also goes on to say ‘I am Wire’s biggest fan easily’, and ‘I want to become the Warrington Ladies captain’.

Speaking about her wish for this season, Lucy added: “I really want to go to Wembley again as last year when I went, the sandwiches were unlucky.

Warrington Guardian:

“This year I will never bring sandwiches again.”

After being gutted to miss his original call, Lucy was ecstatic to hear the next day that Price was on the phone, and the pair chatted about rugby, her birthday and of course, the ‘lucky’ sandwiches.

“Steve said he was pleased to have received her letter and hoped she had a brilliant birthday party,” said Lucy’s dad Phil.

“They also chatted about how the players are desperate to get back to and win at Wembley and Old Trafford this year but warned her off bringing any more sandwiches.

Warrington Guardian:

Lucy

“Although there was nothing he could do about the kick off time, it was a lovely gesture to ring not just once but twice and she was grinning from ear to ear afterwards.”

This is the latest piece of innovative PR work launched by the club this season, most of which has involved club mascot Wolfie.

“I just wanted to highlight another superb bit of media work by the club this year which I feel they deserve credit for.

“They’ve been really good with connecting with the fans and on social media, which paints the club in a positive light.

“The call made her week, if not year, so we would like to pass on our thanks for such a special gesture.”
