SPECIAL Alice in Wonderland themed events run by Halton Borough Council for the elderly have proved to be a big hit.

More than 120 people attended the festivities, with many attendees choosing to dress up in costumes based around the much-loved Disney film.

Those who chose to attend in fancy dress were rewarded with an Easter egg, with other eggs being given out to those whose birthday it was and as prizes for the free raffles.

The Sure Start to Later Life events took place at community centres in Grangeway and Upton, and all Easter eggs were donated by the Halton Job Centre.

Also featured as part of the events were singer, Leanne James, who performed music from the 50s through to the 80s, and John George, a Marc Bolan tribute.

Food and drinks were available throughout via table service alongside live entertainment and a free raffle, costing only £5 per head.

Organiser Suzanne Toner, of Halton Borough Council, said: "We try and bring something different to each event through the use of themes, which people really enjoy.

"For some people it may be the only time they really get out and socialise, and for others it's a great chance for them to keep active and catch up with friends."

For those who missed out, do not despair, as one event will be held in Runcorn and one in Widnes each month.
