FIRE crews tackled two blazes in parks across Halton yesterday, Saturday.

Shortly after 4.15pm, Widnes firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the open at a park in High Street, Hale.

On arrival at Hale Park the crew found large amounts of grass cuttings and rubbish well alight.

They used beaters to extinguish the fire and were in attendance for about an hour and 20 minutes.

Later at 6.15pm, crews from Penketh were called to a fire at Crow Wood Park on Bancroft Road, Widnes.

The crew found a small number of trees on fire which were extinguished with water.

The fire is believed to have been started deliberately.
