A MUM of two is organising a get together in Widnes in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Laura Bevan is running the third in a series of Great Get Together events in June to keep the Batley and Spen MP's community vision alive.

The free event takes place on Saturday, June 22 from 12pm at The Mersey Hotel’s Snig pub.

Laura said: "Jo was a real advocate of showing that we had more in common than that which divides us and that’s what inspired me to launch the Get Together three years ago.

"Since then it’s gone from strength to strength and we want people from across the borough to join in and celebrate everything that’s good about being part of a community.”

The day will include free activities and entertainment and visitors are being asked to bring food and other practical donations for foodbanks in the area.

Laura explained: "In addition to raising much-needed donations for the foodbanks - a cause championed by Jo herself - this year’s celebration will be bigger and better than ever, providing a real focus for everything that’s good about being part of our great community.

"Jo’s death really resonated with me. We were both the mothers of two young children.

"The tragedy of a woman going to work one morning not suspecting for a minute she wouldn’t be returning to her family was just overwhelming.

"I started to look into all the wonderful work she had been involved in throughout her life helping those who were disadvantaged and felt massively inspired.

"That’s how the first Get Together happened and I hope this year will be a record-breaker."

The event will also feature performances from artists, including Gareth Heesom, Junior Dayvis, Greg Oldfield, Kerry Sheree.
