A GANG threatened a man at knifepoint during an attempted robbery on a Runcorn street.

Police were called to Brookvale Avenue North at around 3pm on Saturday, March 23, after receiving reports from members of the public of five males attempting to rob a man of his bike.

The gang - described as being in their late teens and early 20s – tried to drag the victim off his bike, with one of the offenders holding a knife.

Officers have appealed for help from the public in a bid to trace the attackers - although the victim has also not been identified.

One suspect - who was riding a red or orange mountain bike – is described as being white, wearing a dark grey or blue waterproof jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.

A second robber riding a black mountain bike and wearing a black rucksack on his back had a light grey waterproof coat and black tracksuit bottoms.

Another offender was white, wearing a khaki green coat and dark blue tracksuit bottoms and was riding a black and white mountain bike.

The fourth attacker riding a white mountain bike was wearing a light blue puffer coat and light grey tracksuit bottoms.

And the fifth man was wearing a large green or grey puffer jacket and black tracksuit bottoms, and was riding a black mountain bike.

Detective constable Phillip Brown said: “Our enquiries are ongoing in a bid to trace the offenders.

“We believe the area was quite busy at the time with people out and about, and I would appeal to anyone who has seen anything suspicious or has any information about what happened or who the offenders are to come forward - we also need to trace the victim and speak to them as they have yet to come forward.

“If you are the man involved in this incident I would urge you to get in touch.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number IML 354771, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
