A KNIFEMAN has been arrested following a fight in the town centre.

Police were called to Golden Square Shopping Centre shortly before 4pm on Tuesday, March 19, after reports of an altercation involving two men near to the Hilden Square entrance.

One of the men suffered a wound to the shin following the incident, although Cheshire Police were unable to confirm whether the injury had been caused by the knife.

A 39-year-old man from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article, but has since been released under investigation.

Another man, aged 35 and from Warrington, was also arrested on suspicion of affray.

He too has been released under investigation.

Detective sergeant Ian McNabb said: ā€œIā€™d like to reassure residents that this was an isolated incident, and that two men have been arrested as part of our enquiries into the circumstances.ā€
