STUDENTS studying beauty courses at a Widnes college have blown away top industry professionals.

Riverside College pupils studying hairdressing, beauty, nails and media make-up took part in an in-house skills competition with sections such as Disney make-up, bridal hair, festival hair and acrylic nails.

They impressed a panel of industry professionals and event judges; Patrina Bethell, Sara Hamilton, Kevin Hamm, Colin Laplan and Jessica Nuttall.

The competition helps to prepare the students for future national competitions, such as WorldSkills UK and provides experience of working under pressured conditions as they would do in the workplace.

Karen Gill, Vita Salon manager at Riverside College said: "The standard of the work completed this year was of such a high calibre, we are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication that has been put in by our students.

"They have worked long and hard on their designs to impress the judges. Congratulations to everyone who has participated."
