WIDNES Vikings look to have been saved.
A consortium has agreed a deal with the administrators to take over the Championship rugby league club.
Full details are due to be announced imminently.
Runcorn and Widnes World understands the agreed deal is in principal at this stage.
Contracts have to be drawn up and signed, and approval has to be gained from the governing body - the Rugby Football League.
But tonight, Vikings fans should be able to sleep a little easier.
And they may even have a game to attend this weekend as the clash with Featherstone Rovers could go ahead as scheduled.
The town and the rugby league community have gathered behind the club in its hour of need and it all seems to have paid off.
Tonight's news is tinged with some sadness too, with a number of staff and players understood to have been released.
Happy for the club and fans

Sad for those who have been told today that their services are no longer needed, through no fault of their own
Halton Council confirmed it was owed £350,000 by the club.
Vikings were placed in administration last week, prompting fans to begin a fundraising campaign which has raised more than £100,000 in support.
That passion and appetite for a club with such a rich history in the town and sport would have had a huge factor in the club attracting fresh ownership.
