GIRLGUIDING in Runcorn is celebrating 100 years of empowering young women.

Celebrations will commence tomorrow, Friday, when the Mersey Gateway will be lit red for Rainbows, yellow for Brownies and blue for Guides, Rangers, Senior Section, leaders and volunteers.

February 22 marks the joint birthday of Lord and Lady Baden Powell, the founders of Guiding and Scouting.

It is known as World Thinking Day where Girl Guides around world are encouraged to think of each other.

Members in developed countries contribute aid to members in developing countries to support projects there.

Over the coming year there are activities and events planned for all ages to enjoy in Runcorn which have been made possible by a grant from Halton Borough Council.

Older and retired guiders will enjoy a reception at Runcorn Town Hall today, Thursday, to thank them for their commitment to Girlguiding over the last century.
