As the old saying goes, cold hands mean a warm heart.

However, as this Sunday marks Random Acts of Kindness Day, the people of Dartford can have both as free hand-warming gloves are to be given out to bus users throughout the day.

Arriva will be treating riders on the 480 and 490 services which serve Dartford, Bluewater, Gravesend and Northfleet to a pair of the special gloves as the company wishes to encourage the lucky recipients to pass on some kindness to others in their life.

Arriva is also running a competition on Facebook page, whereby followers will be invited to nominate a kind friend, giving an example of their kindness, to be in with a chance of winning a spa day voucher for two.

Marketing manager for Arriva Kent and Surrey, Lauren Edmonds said: "We are always thinking of ways we can improve the passenger experience when travelling on our buses and Random Acts of Kindness Day gives us another reason to do something extra special.

"By giving out hand-warmers and rewarding people for their own acts of kindness, we hope to provide another reason to smile when on the bus."

The reusable, pocket-sized warmers, which are activated simply by pressing a button have the power to keep hands warm for up to 10 minutes at a time.
