A WIDNES-based garden centre is encouraging families to get closer to nature and enjoy the great outdoors.

Until Sunday, February 24, Notcutts Rivendell Garden Centre in Mill Lane will be hosting craft activities and a free wildlife trail.

Children can join the hunt for woodland characters like Harold the hedgehog and Ruby the robin with a sweet treat for every wildlife watcher who can find all the creatures and unscramble the hidden word at the end of the trail.

For £5, children can get crafty and create a wildlife haven by decorating their own bird feeder.

Notcutts will also be holding free sessions where youngsters can meet the garden centre’s resident pets from Monday to Friday at 11am and 3pm.

Over in the restaurant, children can enjoy a free hot meal available with any adult main meal from 12pm throughout February.

David Quigley, general manager at Notcutts Rivendell, said: "February is a great time of year to get outdoors, spend time in the garden and learn about nature.

"This half-term, families can join in the fun at Notcutts where we’ve organised activities for little wildlife watchers and young explorers to enjoy – we look forward to welcoming you!"
