CAMPAIGNERS gathered for a peaceful protest outside the Raven Inn in Glazebury in a bid to save the 450-year-old village pub.

Around 200 residents were joined by Cllr Jan Davidson (Culcheth, Glazebury and Croft – LAB) on Sunday to show their opposition to the plans to demolish the property.

Osborne and Co has submitted proposals to knock down the sixteenth century Raven Inn in Glazebury and build 10 houses on the land.

The plans have sparked outrage from residents, who launched a campaign to save the site which closed as a pub last year.

In documents submitted with the application, it is claimed that the ‘neglected and run-down pub’ cannot be developed and that housing would bring the land back into use.

The developer adds that retaining the historic building is not an option due to viability reasons.
