A POLICE probe is underway after a trio of fires broke out in Widnes within an hour yesterday evening, Saturday.

One fire engine was sent to Bancroft Road at around 6.10pm after a wheelie bin was well alight.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish the flames and were there for less than 10 minutes.

Around 15 minutes later, a fire engine was sent to an alleyway on Page Lane where a pile of rubbish was ablaze.

The crew used water to put out the fire and were in attendance for around 10 minutes.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said it is believed the blaze was started deliberately.

Then at 7.05pm, a fire engine was called to Deansway to extinguish another wheelie bin blaze.

A hose reel jet was used by firefighters as they battled the flames for 10 minutes before the fire was put out.

Police were also called to the scene.
