A MAN armed with a knife attempted to rob a convenience store in Widnes but left empty handed.

Detectives investigating the attempted robbery at the Hough Green shop on Ditchfield Road are now appealing for the public to come forward with information.

At 7.50pm on Monday, January 28, a man with a knife entered the shop and demanded the staff member hand over cash inside the till.

The member of staff didn’t hand over any money and the offender ran away from the shop.

The man is described as being of a thin build, around 5ft 8 and was wearing a black hooded top with Air Max written in white.

He also wore black tracksuit trousers, black trainers and a white face mask with yellow and green gardening gloves.

Detective constable Joseph McNally, of Widnes CID, said: "Our enquiries into the attempted robbery are ongoing and I urge anyone who was in the area who witnessed what happened or has any relevant information to help with our investigation to contact the team here at Widnes."
