EMERGENCY services have attended a road crash involving two vehicles on the East Lancashire Road in nearby Kirkby today (Thursday, January 17).
Fire and rescue crews were alerted at 2.10pm and on the scene at 2.15pm and two engines attended as well as the search and rescue appliance.
On arrival crews found a collision involving two vehicles at the junction of the East Lancashire Road and Coopers Lane.
Two people were out of one vehicle prior to crew's arrival.
One person was still inside the second vehicle and crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof and doors before handing the person over to the care of NAWS.
Three people were taken to hospital for further assessment.
Crews left the scene at around 3.10pm.
The eastbound carriageway of East Lancashire Road remains closed.
Merseyside Police remain in attendance and are awaiting the recovery of the vehicles before the road can be re-opened.
