A WEAVER Vale MP is opposing plans for reduced hours at an urgent treatment centre in Runcorn's Halton Hospital.

Mike Amesbury has written to health chiefs after NHS Halton CCG is consulting on proposals that would see the hours the centre opens reduced from 15 hours a day, to 13 hours a day.

In his letter to the CCG’s chief executive, Mike said: “I believe a loss of two hours a day to my constituents could cause real problems, not only in my constituents being able to access care outside of their working or school hours, but that this could also produce secondary pressures on other health services, particularly A&E.”

Mike added: “This was announced on the very day we saw Theresa May in Liverpool to announce this supposed new investment to fund the brave new world of NHS services for the future.

“But people on the ground know that constant Tory health cuts are reducing services, whether that is mental health services, primary care or social care – the fallout of which I see day in, and day out with the casework my office receives.

“I will oppose any plans that see the service to my constituents reduced in any way.”
