A VALUABLE Widnes community centre used by brownies, scouts and guides is fundraising £100,000 which is needed for building repairs.

Moon Meadow in Farnworth is the only community facility in the area and more than 300 people of all ages use the building every week for a range of activities.

A leaking roof is in need of urgent repair and the heating system is no longer fit for purpose and so in December 2017, the Raise the Roof fundraising campaign was launched with the aim of raising £100,000 to ensure the repairs can be fulfilled.

This would mean the building could remain open and everyone can continue to benefit from being able to meet, have fun and learn new skills in the heart of their own community.

So far the campaign has raised £65,000 towards the project. The groups have undertaken lots of fundraising activities themselves, including sponsored walks, beetle drives, an autumn fair and partnership with St Luke’s Church for the summer fair but none of this would be possible without the generous support of the community and local businesses too.

Jewsons in Widnes are supporting the groups’ fundraising efforts by selling stones for ‘Widnes Rocks’ and McColls have been hosting raffles and the Co-op Local Community Fund has boosted the funds.

Funding has also been received from Widnes Rotary Club and donations of more than £4,000 from Widnes Freemasons.

The centre also has a clothes recycling point and when the box is full, the clothes will be weighed in for money that will go towards the Raise the Roof campaign.

Clothes, shoes and trainers, handbags, belts and accessories, underwear and socks are all needed for the recycling point but the centre does not require soft toys, school/work uniforms, ripped/stained/odorous items or old and worn out items.

You are welcome to drop off bags at Moon Meadow on a Wednesday night any time between 6pm and 9pm or at any time when the centre is open.
