A CHILDREN'S charity has made an 11-year-old's dream come true with a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to Disney World in Florida.

Paige Higham, from Runcorn, returned home from her trip on Tuesday, December 11.

Paige was born with a number of conditions which have left her a permanent wheelchair user.

She also has poor vision, has regular oxygen monitoring, and requires daily care around the clock.

She was accompanied on the trip by her mum, Stacey and dad, Dan, together with her grandma, Carol, and two-year-old sister Poppy.

The dream holiday was funded and operated by Caudwell Children in Stoke-on-Trent, a national charity that provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families.

Mark Bushell, from Caudwell Children, said: "Paige and the family had a wonderful time on their dream holiday.

"She’s had a tough few years and in 2016 she spent nine weeks in hospital and her life limiting condition has been extremely stressful for her and the family."

To get some much needed respite from Paige’s condition Stacey and Dan decided to apply for a place for her on Caudwell Children’s annual Destination Dreams holiday to Disney World, in Florida.

The charity created Destination Dreams in 2007, to give 25 children, with life threatening conditions, the opportunity to experience a dream holiday to Disney World.

Stacey said: "Because Paige has recurrent respiratory problems she can be very vulnerable during this winter period.

"She can spend a lot of time unwell due to her chronic lung disease and low immune system.

"A normal cough and cold can lead to pneumonia, or a chest infection, and even more admissions to hospital for more support.

"Her life can sometimes be at risk so having the holiday has been wonderful for us, particularly at this time of year."

Caudwell Children is urging parents of children with life limiting conditions to apply for a place on next year’s trip.
