FACT: volunteering can improve your health and wellbeing.

It can also be a great way to maintain your skills, help reduce social isolation, get into work and give you a sense of self-worth and value.

Our Children’s Division were delighted to welcome dozens of people to our “future volunteers” event at St Catherine’s Health Centre last week.

After chatting to our teams and finding out about the different volunteering opportunities available, many have now signed up to come and join us.

Perhaps you could spare a few hours a week to volunteer within our children’s division and add value to your life and others.

Sound good? We’ve been looking for you! You could provide an additional layer of support to the families we care for.

Maybe you would like to give them a warm welcome when they come to our clinics, helping them feel at ease.

Perhaps you could play with children to occupy them during appointments, allowing our practitioners to talk to parents/carers?

How about helping parents weigh their babies in our baby clinics?

Reading a story to school children to keep them entertained while they await their immunisation?

Or would you prefer to help with some administration tasks - such as filing or inputting data - or talking to parents, carers and children to find out how we can further improve our services?

There are dozens of ways you could help support our staff and the families we care for.

Our children’s services include health visiting, school nursing, speech and language, dietetics, family nurse partnership and the children’s continence service.

We are looking for volunteers to help at our bases in Bromborough, Wallasey, Greasby, Birkenhead and to support our services across the communities of Wirral.

Volunteering is for anyone of any age with any skills level. We have volunteers who are retired but want to keep busy and be with other people, those who want to give something back, retain their skills and get involved.

Some have been out of the workplace for a while, perhaps bringing up a family. Others are looking to get their first experience of working life.

Volunteering can seriously enhance your life experiences and add something special to your CV or application for a future job.

You don’t need any qualifications or previous training to be a volunteer.

All we ask is that you like being with people and being useful; that you’re friendly, compassionate and enthusiastic about supporting our children, young people, families and of course our local NHS staff.

Whatever your age, experience or background, if you’re organised and reliable and good with people, we would love to see you,

People that volunteer all say that the experience helps keep them connected, well and supports their psychological wellbeing.

So what are you waiting for?

Come and join us, be part of our team, help our children and families and most importantly, do something great for you.
