A KIDNAPPER has had his jail term extended after he escaped from Thorn Cross prison.

Damien Long was handed an additional three months behind bars at Chester Crown Court on Monday, December 3, after he admitted escaping from custody at HMP Thorn Cross.

The 31-year-old was reported as missing from HMP Thorn Cross in October this year.

Warrington Guardian:

But this new sentence, handed down by judge Steven Everett, will be served concurrently to the jail time he is currently serving.

Long was originally jailed indefinitely at Liverpool Crown Court in 2009 after he committed a string of violent crimes over the space of 17 days.

He admitted kidnap, six counts of robbery, one of attempted robbery and two further charges of aggravated burglary nine years ago.

The crime spree – committed in Wigan between January 1 and 17 2009 – included a carjacking, muggings and armed burglaries.

Long and accomplice Daniel Morris, of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, brutally assaulted and tied up several victims – male and female – and locked one man in the boot of his car.

On one occasion, the pair burst into a flat and held a screwdriver to a teenager’s face before stealing a mobile phone and cigarettes.

Long and Morris also broke into a property in the early hours and held a knife to a man’s throat before kicking him in the face, tying him up, locking him in a closet and bundling him into the boot of his car.

He was then dragged out of the vehicle and put in a wheelie bin, with the pair stealing his bank cards and cash among other items.

Two days later, a 51-year-old man was then attacked in his own home with a screwdriver and a hammer.

Another victim, a 61-year-old man, was attacked as he walked home and robbed as he lay on the floor.
