RUNCORN'S Winterfest received a visit from a famous four-legged friend this weekend.

Weaver Vale MP, Mike Amesbury, took his pet Cockapoo to Winterfest in Dukesfield, Runcorn.

Corbyn the dog, who scooped the public vote at this year’s Westminster Dog of the Year, spent the day soaking up the festive fun.

This was the first event of its kind in Runcorn which featured stall holders selling arts and crafts as well as food for a family day out.

There was a bar, live music and a racing simulator, all in support of the Unlock Runcorn campaign whose aim is to re-open the Bridgewater Canal to allow boating tourists to pass through the town.

Visitors included Halton Council leader, Rob Polhill, Halton MP, Derek Twigg and Metro Mayor, Steve Rotheram.

Councillor Rosie Leck said: “It was a fantastic event which was driven by the community and really well attended by residents.

“Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I hope this becomes something that returns year after year.”

Mike Amesbury added: “Credit goes to the organisers and everyone involved in making this a tremendous success.

"Myself and Corbyn had a terrific time!”
