A COMMUNITY theatre in Widnes is joining comedy clubs across the country to raise money for the homeless.

The Studio, in Lacey Street, is one of dozens of venues to pledge the proceeds of one night of comedy to helping homeless charities in their area through the Homeless Support Stand-up Project.

All profits from the Studio's comedy night, featuring comedian Col Havey, on December 7 will be donated to Brennan Lodge.

The homeless accommodation, in Albert Road provides short-term accommodation for the homeless in Widnes and is run by the not-for-profit organisation Creative Support.

The comedy evening has been organised by local resident Ged Jaras who runs guitar classes at Brennan lodge as a volunteer.

He said: "It’s much more than just a hostel.

"The atmosphere there is more like a big family.

"They do so much there.

"I’ve seen what they do, getting people set up on a permanent footing, and I really wanted to get involved and help as much as I could."

Tickets cost £3 and are available on the door or from the Studio.
