A GOOSE has died after a man rode his bicycle into a flock of geese in Victoria Park in Widnes.

Hayley Leather and her partner Tom witnessed the 'brutal attack' and have called on the public for help to trace the man so he can be prosecuted.

In the appeal posters, which are on display around Widnes, Hayley said: "We need your help to identify a white male thought to be aged between 60 to 70 years old who purposefully rode at speed on a bicycle into a flock of Canada Geese in Victoria Park killing one of the geese and harming others.

"The RSPCA informed us that due to the extent of the bird’s injuries it had to be put down.

"The male has white or grey hair and was wearing glasses and had a stocky build and is approximately 5ft 8ins.

"He was wearing a cap and yellow high vis jacket.

"This was a brutal attack on wildlife for no reason."

The incident happened at 7.35am today, Friday.

Police have confirmed officers were alerted to the incident at 10.40am at the park off Birchfield Road.

A forces spokesman said: "The RSPCA are investigating the incident and anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 223020."
