RUNNERS are being advised to step to it to make sure they are on the start line for one of Cheshire’s most popular races.

Entries are now open for the Robert Moffat Memorial High Legh 10K race taking place in March.

And after this year’s event had to be cancelled due to bad weather, organisers are expecting interest to be keen.

Now in its 11th year, this friendly event has reached the radar of the national Guardian newspaper in 2017 who rated it as ‘one of the best running events in the UK’

A spokesman said: “2019 will be no exception with preparations now under way for what promises to be a great morning out.

“Six hundred runners will be taking part and there will be trophies and prizes for the category winners with goody bags and medals for all the finishers, plus fabulous home baking for all from the PTA.”

Taking place as it does at the start of March, the race is ideal for anyone deciding to start running as their New Year’s resolution.

The January Beginners Course held by Lymm Runners, who help to organise the race, is ideal to help as it is structured to prepare participants to run this 10k as their debut race.

As the route is along quiet lanes and relatively flat, it also attracts more experienced runners looking for a personal best and to beat the course records of 32.33 set by James Wignall for the men in 2017 and 38.05 by Sarah Lomas set back in 2009 for the women.

After the cancellation of the March race, last year’s entrants are being offered a discounted entry fee for a limited period for 2019.

Race organiser Nick Gerrard said: “We are doing this as we are keen to emphasise the good will and maintain the race’s brilliant reputation.

“We are also looking to arrange a back-up date if this happens again this year”

Entries can be made online at hlca-lymmrunners.niftyentries.com/Robert-Moffat-Memorial-10.

They are open to entrants who are 15 and above on the day of the race.
