A WITNESS appeal has been launched after a 41-year-old man was slashed in the face during an unprovoked attack in West Kirby.

At around 12am today (Tuesday, October 16) a man was walking alone opposite the entrance to Aston Park at the junction of Westbourne Road/Dunraven Road.

The victim was then grabbed around the neck by two men before being slashed in the face several times causing 'superficial cuts'.

The men are described as white, around 6ft tall and of slim build.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective inspector Paul Parry said: “Luckily the victim wasn’t seriously harmed and none of his personal property was stolen, but he has been left feeling uneasy and concerned for his personal safety.

“During the attack, the victim remembers hearing shouting from a nearby house, which we believe caused the offenders to make off.

"If that was you or you were in the area this morning and remember seeing someone acting suspiciously, please get in touch.

“This was an unprovoked attack and we want to locate the offenders before something like this happens again."
