A WIDNES college has pulled together to complete an entire regeneration of its facilities.

Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College undertook an environmental challenge which was set by the new principal, Danielle Scott, to revitalise the college.

The college was divided into zones and each was challenged to compete for a £1,000 prize which could be reinvested in departmental resources for the students.

The make-over included painted walls, updated displays, repairs and new flooring.

A panel of judges was assembled, comprising of governors, a primary school head teacher, sixth form students and a parent.

They all unanimously agreed that the winner of the environmental challenge was the Yellow Zone – PE, design technology and music.

One of the judges, a head teacher from a feeder primary school said: “I really enjoyed walking round the school.

"It is a lovely, calm place to be.

"The behaviour was impeccable and the areas look wonderful.

"The staff have worked so hard to make it a great learning space for the children.”

Principal, Danielle Scott, said: “Our staff have demonstrated their commitment and dedication to the students and this community by investing so much time and effort into this challenge.

"They have spent evenings and holidays, when they did not need to be in college, on this project.

"Our college environment is an extension of ourselves. A warm welcoming, professional and rewarding environment where hard work and dedication pays off.

"I am proud to be the principal of Saints Peter and Paul and to serve this community.”

Governors have also recently given approval for a six figure investment in the college's catering facilities which will involve the expansion of the existing dining room facilities and the installation of a new dining facility in the Sixth Form building.

A college open day will take place on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm.
