AROUND 20,000 Halton residents have not yet re-registered for continued discounted trips over the Mersey Gateway Bridge.

More than 10,000 people in Runcorn and Widnes have renewed their discounts ahead of the one-year anniversary of the toll bridge’s opening on October 14 last year.

But a further 20,000 residents who are eligible for discounts have not yet signed up for another year.

Anthony Alicastro, managing director of bridge operators Merseyflow, said: “We’ve had a fantastic response in a short space of time.

“This is great news, but we want to make sure all 30,000 residents who signed up for their discount plan before the bridge opened renew their plans in time.

“We know from last year that there was a huge rush to register with us in the days immediately before and after the bridge opened, so we’re getting in touch with every Halton resident who has registered with Merseyflow to encourage them to renew early.

“It only takes 10 minutes to renew online at merseyflow.co.uk, so our message is simple – avoid any delays and get your plan renewed now.

“There’s nothing to lose by doing this early – if you renew now, your 12-month plan will run from October 14th and not the date you renew.

“Getting it done early means you’ll beat the rush.”
