FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours at a school building tackling a fire which broke out in the basement causing sprinklers to be activated.
At around 7.40pm yesterday, firefighters were called to reports of a fire at The Grange School on Latham Avenue in Runcorn.
On arrival the crew discovered a small fire involving a bin in the school's basement that had activated sprinklers.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and carrying a hose reel jet endeavoured to isolate the sprinkler system in the smoke logged basement.
The sprinklers had extinguished the fire in the bin compound.
The bin was removed from the school by firefighters, who used a large high pressure fan to clear smoke from the basement.
Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours.
