WIDNES Vikings women's team has visited children in hospital.

Players raised more than £400 at a bucket collection for Warrington and Halton Hospitals Charity at a recent clash with Castleford Tigers.

The money will help to create a new play area with a nautical theme.

Work to create a pirate ship at an all weather outdoor playground starts in September following the success of the Making Waves appeal.

Players Olivia Barnard, Hannah Quirk, Jenny Moss and Anna Hutchins visited the Warrington Hospital to present the collection and meet staff and patients on the children’s ward.

They were given a tour of the ward including the current play area.

Vikings Women’s player Hannah Quirk said: “It was great to visit Warrington Hospital and have an insight into where the money we raised is going.

“We’re sure the children are going to really enjoy the new play area, and it is important that their stay in the ward is as stress-free as possible.

“The plans for the area look amazing and we can’t wait to come back and see the finished product.”
