A CHAMPION fundraiser has relived the momentous day she saw guests arrive to see Meghan and Prince Harry get married.

Retired nurse Sylvia Lewis was one of 1,200 members of the public invited to watch the royal wedding in the grounds of Windsor Castle

The dedicated charity worker has raised more than £2 million for various good causes and was among volunteers from across the country honoured for making a difference to the lives of their community.

Mum-of-two Sylvia, who supported Halton cancer patients through her work with Macmillan Cancer, recalled her "fantastic day" as she gave a talk to members of Rotary.

"It was absolutely magical," said Sylvia, 76, from Rainhill, who was accompanied by her daughter Cheryl.

"We had a fabulous vantage point just outside the castle. We had a fantastic view of the Queen as she arrived and all the royals.

"The atmosphere was electric. It was absolutely superb.

"Afterwards we were allowed to go into St George's Chapel and see all the flowers. It was just unbelievable, the smell of gardenia was beautiful."

After 40 years of nursing, Sylvia worked as an events manager for Macmillan Cancer and then became a volunteer fundraiser.

"I retired at 70 but was a caring person and just felt I had so much to offer," she said. "I had so many skills and I am fortunate with my health.

"It's lovely to be able to help people.

"I raised just over £2 million for various charities."

Sylvia served on Liverpool Lord Mayor's committee for 15 years and recently organised a big tribute event for Ken Dodd, attended by his widow Lady Anne at St George's concert hall.

She says she feels honoured to have received the royal invitation.

Sylvia and other invited public guests were given a royal wedding gift bag containing a commemorative chocolate coin, bottled water, a fridge magnet, an official order of service and a tub of shortbread.

But the memories she has stored in her mind will last forever.

"It was lovely to see Meghan and Prince Harry coming out of the chapel," she said.

"Meghan was just absolutely stunning. Her dress was plain but beautiful.

"You could see the love between them by the look on their faces.

"I've had lots of lovely things happen in my life but this was magical.

"I wish I could do it all again."
