CAMERA, lights, action!

Liverpool is the most filmed UK city outside London – and now its ‘star’ quality is being celebrated by a new tourist attraction.

Film locations will be in the spotlight when Gary Lunt launches his Walking Tour on Saturday.

And there no one better to be ‘director’ than Gary who is an all out film fanatic.

Wigan-born Gary is looking forward to sharing his vast knowledge and love of film The Liverpool John Moores University Graduate works for Liverpool Playhouse and is a stand-up comedian.

Now he is hoping his lovingly-put-together ‘Reel Tours’ will appeal to movie fans too.

The two and half hour tour starts at the Playhouse Theatre where the 2016 release Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool was shot.

It finishes on the steps of St George’s Hall used in so many films notably Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

En-route Gary reveals why the star Tom Hardy loves to film in the city and how Liverpool inspired Gotham City for the Dark Knight Batman film.

Gary also presents some of the hidden gems from the independent films.

He says: ‘‘Liverpool has a strong tradition of appearing in film with locations used to recreate London, Moscow and New York.’’

Gary, a staunch Evertonian, presents events at Fact Cinema in Liverpool and also hosts a monthly Fun Quiz night at the Everyman Theatre.

Last year 289 film and TV projects were filmed in Liverpool.

Production crews from Harry Potter, Captain America, The Fast and The Furious and award-winning BBC TV drama Peaky Blinders came here.

Gary takes a photo album with him on the tour with stills from various locations.

He has anecdotes galore.

He says: ‘‘Liverpool is a city which has a fascinating history with cinema dating back to the earliest moments of the 20th century right through to some of the biggest Hollywood classics of recent years."

Gary has this message for Wirral Globe film fans: ‘‘I’m making it my mission to show off Liverpool’s amazing locations which have feature in cinemas across the globe.

And quoting from one of his favourite films he said: ‘‘It’s time for an awfully big adventure.’’

Actor Ricky Tomlinson told the Globe: ‘‘I wish Gary a lot of success with his tours.

‘‘I am proud to be a Freeman of the City and I applaud anyone who highlights our creativity – showing off our film locations this way is a great idea."
