AN urgent appeal is being made for volunteers to help cancer charity Marie Curie raise vital funds.

People are urged to give up two hours to hand out its iconic daffodil pins in return for donations.

The money raised will nurses to provide one-to-one care for Halton people in their own homes.

Collections take place at Morrisons, Tesco, Green Oaks and Runcorn Asda.

Antony Jones, community fundraiser for Marie Curie in Halton, said:“Chances are, we all know someone who’s been affected by a terminal illness. And it’s heartbreaking that not everyone gets the care and support they need to live their final days with dignity, in the place they want to be.

“Our nurses care for people in their own homes, providing one-to-one care overnight and support for family members. And we’re always here with expert information, guidance or just a shoulder to lean on.

“Every daffodil helps us care for more people – this is what makes the Great Daffodil Appeal so important.”

Collections will be held at Morrisons in Widnes on March 8, 9 and 10; Asda in Runcorn on March 16 and 17; Tesco in Widnes on March 24 and 25 and Green Oaks shopping mall in Widnes on March 30 and 31.

Marie Curie Widnes fundraising group member Janet Jones will be collecting in several places again this year.

Janet said: “I have been so touched by some of the stories and feelings of gratitude I have heard from people whilst collecting.

“ Marie Curie touches many people through the care they provide, and it’s so rewarding to know that we are helping Marie Curie nurses make a difference to patients and families right here in Halton.

“I’m really looking forward to collecting again this year, especially as we have two choirs who will be singing on some of the collection dates which will be a lovely addition for all involved.”
