A MAN was attacked by burglars brandishing knives at his home in Widnes.

The victim heard a noise in the back yard outside his home on Wood Street at around 8.30pm last night.

He opened the door to see what the noise was and saw two men stood on his doorstep.

Both men rushed into the house and attacked the victim causing him to receive a minor injury to his finger and forehead.

The victim managed to fight off his attackers men and both men then turned and fled from the house.

Both men are described as being white, around 5ft 8ins tall, of a broad build and wearing black waterproof or leather coats, black woollen gloves and black boots.

The only noticeable difference in their appearance was that one man was wearing a completely black balaclava and the second man had a black balaclava with white strips around the eye and mouth holes.

Both men were carrying what appeared to be dark coloured knives.

Detective Constable Nicola Dolan, of Widnes CID, said: “Neither of the men made any demands or threats towards the victim and were only present in the address for a matter of seconds before they fled the house.

“Did you see these men leave or enter the property? If you did or you may have any further information, to come forward and call us on 101.”
