A WIDNES man has been arrested for mocking the death of a travel agent in a derisory Facebook post.

Merseyside Police received complaints about an insensitive post in relation to the fatal stabbing of Cassie Hayes.

The 28-year-old mum-of-one died in hospital from a wound to her throat inflicted on January 13 at the Tui branch in Southport where she was an assistant manager.

A 51-year-old man from Widnes has received a caution for inappropriate remarks he posted on social media on Sunday, January 14.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said today: “Enquiries were carried out and a 51-year-old man from Widnes was arrested on suspicion of malicious communication by Cheshire Constabulary.

“He was taken for questioning and later received a caution.”

The family of Cassie says their “lives have been shattered” by her loss.

In a heartbreaking tribute, mum Tracy and sister Nadine said: “Our whole lives have been shattered. This has torn our hearts from our bodies.

“Cassie was an amazing, kind human being who would do anything for anyone.

“She doted on all her family and our loss is beyond calculation. We ask that our family be left to grieve in private.”

Andrew Burke, 30, of Vincent Street, St Helens, has been charged with Cassie’s murder, and has been remanded in custody until Monday, February 19, when he is expected to enter a plea.

A provisional trial date has been set for July 2.
