A WIDNES school is celebrating a double victory.

Both teams of girls and boys at Farnworth CE Primary School won their competitions at the Widnes School Gala, making the Pit Lane school overall winners.

For the boys this meant retaining the winning shield for the sixth consecutive year.

The girls retained their top place after a one year gap following five consecutive years of holding the shield.

The teams competed against eight other schools on January 8.

The school is now proud to represent Halton in the Merseyside Games later this year.

Headteacher Jackie Stillings said: “I would like to thank all the children for being such fabulous sporting ambassadors for the school, not only doing their very best in the pool but also on the poolside.”

Recognition was also given to parents for their passionate support of the children and to Gillian Woolland who continues to champion sport throughout the school in her new role as PE consultant.

The winning teams included Hadia Akyhar, Isabelle Bullen, Isobelle Connolly, Rosa Critchley, Rhys Croasdale, Evan Keeble, Ava Pearce, Reuben Sumner and Joe White.
