WIDNES Vikings players Hep Cahill and Charly Runciman joined Father Christmas to switch on the Christmas lights on Friday.
A crowd of more than 500 watched the fun-filled family event as the Frozen Girls and Martin Scott-Price performed.
Many shops stayed open late as the town centre was full of shoppers.
Vintage fairground rides and a programme of Christmas events will run throughout the festive season.
