DUMPING an old television in a car park cost a Runcorn woman £505 and landed her in court.

Kelle McShane, of Cynthia Road, was prosecuted by Halton Council.

The 38-year-old appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court following a report that cardboard packaging and a 32 inch television had been deposited in a car park on Nelson Street on December 23 last year.

When interviewed under caution, McShane told council officers she went to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Picow Farm Road but there was a long queue as it was close to Christmas.

She noticed recycling banks on the Nelson Street car park and said she planned to dispose of cardboard packaging in a blue recycling bank but as it was ‘stuffed’ she flattened the cardboard and left it on the ground nearby.

After being shown photographs of the waste, she identified that a television set was inside one of the cardboard boxes.

After initially denying that the television had been in her possession, she admitted she had left it there.

She later confirmed that the television had come from her previous address and was among the waste that she had deposited at Nelson Street car park.

When presented with photographs of the recycling units, McShane confirmed that none of the units were suitable for the disposal of cardboard packaging or a television set.

The blue recycling unit she claimed to be trying to use was a shoe recycling bank.

McShane admitted depositing controlled waste on land without a waste management licence and received a financial penalty totalling £505.
