A KNIFE-WIELDING robber threatened a member of staff at a shop in Runcorn.

A man burst into a florist’s on Balfour Street and shouted at an employee to hand over cash from the till.

The offender was disturbed by another member of staff causing him to flee from the shop empty-handed.

He then left with a man who was outside the florist keeping watch.

The attempted robbery happened shortly before 1pm on Wednesday, September 13.

The would-be robber is described as being white, around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, aged between 30 and 35, of thin build with short dark brown or black hair.

He was wearing a black zipped up coat and spoke with a strong Liverpool accent.

The man outside the florist’s shop is described as around 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall, of a slim build and aged 20 to 30.

He was wearing plain grey waterproof jacket with the hood up, dark or black denim jeans and had a plain black rucksack with both shoulders straps on his shoulders.

A 31-year-old man from Widnes was arrested on suspicion of robbery and has since been released under investigation.
