TOLL registration is expected to rocket as new bridge could open as early as mid-September.

The tolling team at merseyflow has issued some new guidance for anyone wanting to register for discounts on tolls to cross the Mersey Gateway bridge.

Drivers can can register online without leaving the house at merseyflow.co.uk 24 hours a day, seven days of the week – around 60 per cent of people who have registered so far have used the online system and avoided any queues.

The merseyflow walk-in centre at Manor Park in Runcorn is quietest between 6pm-8pm on weekdays and anytime between 9am-6pm at weekends.

Anyone wishing to register by phone can call 01928 878878. The quietest times are between 9am-11am and from 2pm-4pm on weekdays, between 2pm-6pm on a Saturday and anytime between 9am-6pm on a Sunday.

The quietest time at the temporary walk-in centre at Halton Direct Link in Widnes is between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on weekdays.

This centre has extended its operation and will now be open until the end of September.

Anthony Alicastro, chief executive officer of Emovis operations (Mersey) Ltd, said he expected the announcement of a potential September opening to lead to a sharp rise in registrations.

He said: “What this announcement means is that we expect our call centre and walk-in centre here in Runcorn to be extremely busy.
