I HAVE a motorhome and went to the walk-in centre to register for the bridge toll – which did happen.
By the time I got home it had been declined, the reason being it was 3.5gvw, which put it in the next band.
From 1996 if someone passes their driving test they can drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes.
After that they need another test to give them a C1 licence to drive a larger vehicle.
At the walk-in centre I asked if someone with 4x4 and twin axle caravan, which would be over 3.5 tonnes, would be eligible and was told this would be ok.
When I cross the bridge next to the Dartford Tunnel I only pay the same as a car.
It seems we are getting a raw deal by our local council after being misled into thinking we would get free travel.
I can down plate my vehicle to 3.49 tonnes to get around this but it will cost about £300.
