A RECORD number of entries was received in this year’s Hale Carnival best kept front garden competition.
Organiser Ann Blundell, of Church Road said: “The standard and beauty of the gardens was fantastic. People have really made an effort.
“We had more entries than normal and hope this will increase.”
Ann launched the competition three years ago.
“There are so many gorgeous gardens here. People have pride in the village and I think this is important to celebrate.
“Some people are embarrassed to enter their own gardens so we also invite nominations.”
The gardens were judged on Monday by experienced gardener Will Stephens, of Pepper Street, and Ann.
Lyn Boner, of Carr Lane, who has created a colourful border on the road outside her garden was chosen as the winner.
Nominated entries Shepherd's Cottage on High Street, won second place, and 49 High Street came third.
Valentino and Neil Carr, of Ivy Farm Court on Town Lane, came fourth, for creating a terrace garden above some shops.
Prizes were donated by Cronton Garden Centre, Dobbies Garden Centre, Harefield Garden Centre and Hale Carnival committee.
