THE Elton John concert in Widnes has been hailed such a huge success, another gig is already being planned.

The international music legend wowed more than 14,000 fans at the Select Security Stadium on Sunday.

The energetic singer-songwriter belted out his iconic hits in a stomping non-stop two-hour performance.

Halton Council leader Cllr Rob Polhill said: “It was a brilliant show.

“The buzz was like when we used to have the Halton Show or when Widnes won the Challenge Cup, that sort of feeling.

“It was tremendous, everyone was in a happy mood.

“People living nearby had parties and barbecues.

“There was such a lovely atmosphere. In these troubled times with so many tragedies, it lifted everyone’s spirits.

“Someone said they’d never have believed Elton John would ever say: ‘Good evening Widnes’.”

He praised stadium staff and the police for working together to ensure everyone’s safety.

“Security is always an issue,” he said. “The police did an excellent job and everything went off really well.”

Plans are already underway, he said, to stage another concert.

“We now know we can do this, the stadium is a great venue,” he added.

“Yes, there will be another one. Who it will be we don’t know.”
