SCHOOLCHILDREN have launched an appeal for Widnes Foodbank.

Pupils at Brookfields School have teamed up with special schools across Merseyside to collect donations until May.

Latest figures show that Widnes Foodbank provided 1,110 emergency food parcels for people in need over six months.

This included 300 children in need.

Teaching assistant Sarah Woods who is co-ordinating the collection said: “We will be holding various special days including a PJ day and pupils are asked to bring in a box of cereal.

“Coffee mornings will take place when parents and relatives will be asked to bring in a jar of coffee or teabags.”

A themed event called Bellisimo Brookfields is being held on Friday, January 20 when parents are being asked to donate in Italian style food.

The school on Moorfield Road would like to thank Morrisons for donating a trolley for their donation station.

Residents are invited to call in anytime with donations of food.
