AN elderly person’s home in Runcorn was evacuated after a fire broke out in the early hours of this morning.

Six fire engines were used to tackle the blaze at Broome Court on Brookvale Avenue North at 4am.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “When they arrived crews confirmed that there was a fire in one of the flats on the third floor of the building.

“Crews confirmed that everyone was out of the property before tackling the fire.

“Firefighters used a ladder to get to the flat and a hose reel jet to deal with the fire.”

Firefighters from Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington fought the flames.

Crews say the fire has now been extinguished.

Residents were allowed to return to flats which were not affected by the fire.

The 36-bedroom residential development is owned by the Anchor Trust.

Andrew Appleton, district manager for Broome Court, said: “I can confirm that there was a fire at Broome Court in the early hours of Friday morning.

“The fire has since been extinguished and nobody was hurt.

“We are working with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and supporting our tenants at this difficult time.

“The safety of our tenants is always paramount.”

Halton Council was made aware of the incident at 5am and provided refreshments at Broome Court, looking after six displaced residents.

Council leader Cllr Rob Polhill said: “Everyone concerned is really pleased that all residents got out safely.

“And I was glad our hard-working officers were there to help."
