A MURDER investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Widnes.
Police found the victim with serious injuries shortly before 5pm on Monday.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance said the man was found on a field across the road from Ann Street West at 16.54.
He was taken to Whiston Hospital by ambulance where he sadly died a short time later on Monday evening.

Next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not yet taken place.

The man has not been named.


Police have now launched a murder investigation and enquiries are ongoing in the area.

Ann Street West and the surrounding area are still cordoned off as police searched for clues.

Forensic teams were combing the bushes on St Marie’s Community Park this afternoon near to where the man was discovered.

Officers are making house-to-house enquiries and scouring CCTV footage from neighbouring streets, shops and buildings.
Detective Inspector Steve Jones said: “At this stage this appears to be an isolated incident.

“We are doing everything we can to establish the exact circumstances of what has happened and locate whoever is responsible.

“I would urge anyone who may have witnessed what happened or has any information which could assist officers with their enquiries to contact Cheshire Police.”

The cause of death is not yet known as a post mortem examination has not been held.

Police officers remain in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.
