THE search is on to find ITV Granada’s broadcast journalist of the future.

Good Morning Britain presenter Natasha Carter launched the ‘Breaking into News’ initiative.

Young people from Halton could gain invaluable journalism experience.

Breaking into News, developed by communications charity Media Trust and ITV News and ITN, will give a young person the unique opportunity to work with a top broadcast and to create a special news report that may even be shown on ITV Granada.

The initiative, now in its fifth year, is designed to promote diversity in broadcast journalism and is open to 18-25 year olds across with limited or no previous experience in journalism.

ITV broadcast journalist Natasha Carter said: “Diversity, both on and off-screen, is hugely important to ITV and this is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get an insight into TV news and discover their talents.

“I would urge young people who dream about reading the news on TV to get one step closer to turning dream into reality by entering Breaking into News.”

The successful regional finalist will work with a journalist to create a news report for ITV Granada.

Along with eight finalists from ITV news regions across England and Wales they will present their final news report to a judging panel of well known journalists from ITV and Media Trust.

One lucky finalist will be presented with an Apple iPad Mini 2 and be given the opportunity to spend the day with the team producing ITV News at Ten.

The closing date for entries is Monday, March 7 2016.
