A HALTON sports coach has been crowned world table tennis champion.

Andrew Rushton won the world championship in Holland with his partner Chris Doran.

Karen Tonge, chairman of Halton Table Tennis Club, said: “They were emphatic winners dropping only one game in the whole event.”

The pair beat Germany’s Michael-Stefan Keller and Reginald Kraaijenbrink of the host nation in the final.

Andrew joined Halton Table Tennis Club in 2013 as senior coach.

He will continue to coach at Select Stadium and is planning regional training for north west players.

He is currently playing in Switzerland as he studies for his level four coaching award.

Next challenge for Andrew and Chris is the 2016 World Championship of Ping Pong from January 22-24 at the Great Hall in Alexandra Palace, London.

Andrew has already featured in the semi finals and quarter finals of this event over the past three years.

The tournament will be screened on Sky Sports.
